Placement Report - 2007
If placements are any indication of the success of a business school in the corporate world, Symbiosis Institute of Business Management has definitely made its mark as can be seen from the success of the Campus Recruitment Program of 2007. 3rd January 2007 was the day when the dreams of 143 students turned into reality. SIBM surpassed all existing records as 210 offers were made to 143 students. There was representation from varied sectors ranging from FMCG, Banking & Financial Services, Consulting, IT & ITES, Manufacturing and Automobile to Consumer Durables, Retail, Media and Advertising amongst others.
The entire batch was placed in a matter of 6 hours, reiterating the increasing demand for SIBM students. Recruiters across geographies visited the institute competing against each other for 143 students that the institute had to offer this year. The students had a lot of choice with offers averaging to 1.45 per student.
Of the 79 companies that participated, the regular recruiters such as Marico Ltd., GSK Consumer Healthcare, ITC Ltd., J.P. Morgan Services, Godrej Industries, Dabur India Ltd., Asian Paints, Intel, Wipro Ltd. and Infosys Technologies Ltd. marked their presence.
New Recruiters
This year was marked by the participation of new global recruiters like Sony Gulf and Singapore based Kaybee Group as well as domestic recruiters like Bharti Airtel, Deloitte, HSBC Bank, Morgan Stanley Advantage Services, Dell International, Fidelity Business Services, United Spirits, Reliance Industries Ltd.(Retail Business), Agrotech Foods, Godfrey Phillips, Goodyear, Eicher Motors, Darashaw, Adventity, Vista Soft, Thomas Cook and Citifinancial to name a few.
The average compensation reached an all time high of Rs. 8.7 lakhs p.a. and median compensation stood at Rs.8 lakhs p.a. with the highest international offer made by Olam International at $85,000 while the highest domestic offer was Rs. 10.5 lakhs p.a. by Dell International and Infosys Technologies.
Lateral Offers
To cater to the demand for management students with work exposure, SIBM conducted a separate placement session for such students to leverage on their prior work experience. Lateral students, with experience in sectors as diverse as IT, Financial Services, FMCG and Manufacturing were made offers from Infosys Technologies Ltd., Cognizant Technology Solutions, Covansys, Wipro Ltd., IBM, Goodyear, Dell International and JP Morgan Chase.
International Offers
The Campus Recruitment Programme this year reinstated the competence of SIBM students in the global corporate scenario. First timers, Sony Gulf and Kaybee Group with the regular recruiter Olam International made 6 offers. The profiles offered were for positions in Dubai, Singapore, China and Central Africa.
Banking & Financial Services
This sector saw the highest number of new recruiters with names like Morgan Stanley Advantage Services, HSBC Bank, Adventity BPO (India) Pvt. Ltd., B. A. Continuum Solutions, Darashaw, Fidelity Business Services. The highest compensation in this sector saw an increase of 13.7 % over last year and stood at Rs. 10.12 lakhs, offered by JPMorgan Services. A total of 58 offers were made, with the highest number of offers being made by ICICI Bank followed by J P Morgan Services, Kotak Mahindra Bank and HSBC Bank.
IT & ITES
This sector had the distinction of having the highest number of offers with a total of 78 being made. Wipro made the highest number of offers at 15, closely followed by Infosys at 14, Cognizant Technology Solutions at 11, IBM at 9. The highest compensation offered was Rs. 10.5 lakhs p.a. by Dell International and Infosys Technologies. The highest freshers offer from this sector was 9 Lakhs p.a. from 3i Infotech which recruited for the first time from SIBM.
FMCG
The strong hold of FMCG in SIBM was reaffirmed this year with major giants like ITC Ltd., GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare, Dabur India Ltd., Marico Ltd., and Perfetti Van Melle recruiting yet again whereas Agrotech Foods and United Spirits recruited for the first time.
Manufacturing and Automobile
A total of 16 offers were made by the companies in this sector. The companies that participated were Mahindra & Mahindra, BPCL, Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Co. Ltd., Eicher Motors, Tata Motors, Maruti Udyog Ltd. and Goodyear. The highest compensation was offered by Goodyear at Rs. 8.59 lakhs p.a.
Sectors such as consulting, advertising and media, retail, consumer durables and telecom were represented by Avalon consulting, Grow Talent and Cedar Consulting, Bharti Airtel, Hutch, Idea Cellular, Reliance Industries (Retail Business), Whirlpool of India, Sony Gulf, Leo Burnett, Television Eighteen India Ltd. and Radio Mirchi.
